Tupelo- After an extended period of declining health, Fraser L. Hunter, 82, most recently of Tupelo, Mississippi, died on Friday, December 29, 2017. Mr. Hunter was born on November 18, 1935, in Tupelo, the fourth child of John Hunter and Alice Hunter Patterson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Hunter, Jr. and sisters Catherine Sadler and Alice Patterson. He is survived by his daughter, Anderson Tingley and husband Sam Tingley of Darien, Connecticut, and son, Fraser Hunter, Jr. and wife Nina Huffman of New York, New York; five grandchildren, Emily, Carter and Harrison Watt and Henry and Lomax Hunter; and nine nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hunter was a proud graduate of Vanderbilt University, where he was the Editor of the Hustler and President of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Following in the footsteps of his father and brother, he joined the nascent New York office of Oxford Industries, rising to head the Women’s Division and leading the firm’s ground-breaking efforts to become one of the first U.S. companies to do business in China following normalization. He retired to Southern Pines, North Carolina in 1987 before returning home to Tupelo in 2015.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at 1 p.m. at The First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo with the Rev. Dr. Ron Richardson and the Rev. Jill Tolbert, Mr. Hunter’s niece, officiating.
