Frances Filgo Hovis Tupelo Funeral services for Frances Hovis, 96, will be held Monday, June 29 at 11:00 a.m. in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Home, 535 Jefferson St. in Tupelo, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. She died on June 25, 2015 at Traceway Retirement Village where she had lived for the past twenty-one years. Graveside services will be in Glenwood Cemetery immediately following services. Frances Evans Filgo was born on March 21, 1919 to Allen and Eula Mae Filgo. She graduated from Tupelo High School in 1936, the year the big tornado devastated the town of Tupelo. She married Guy Lee Hovis, Sr., one of the original members of the Mississippi Highway Patrol, in 1941. After moves to Clarksdale, Picayune and Greenwood, they returned in Tupelo for good in 1951. She worked for more than thirty years for the OBGYN group that began as Bourland, Murphy and Thomas and is now known as OBGYN Associates. Frances was a strong and faithful Christian and was the longest standing member of Harrisburg Baptist Church where she was a member of the choir for many years. She was an active member of the ladies group in Willis Heights called the West Heights Club. Frances was an amazing woman who worked a full-time job, cooked three meals a day for her family washed and ironed their clothes and kept a spotless home. In her "spare" time she loved to tend to her roses. Frances was preceded in death by her son, Robert Ervin Hovis, her parents, her husband, and her brother, Robert Filgo. She is survived by her son, Guy Lee Hovis, Jr. (Sis), daughter, Linda Joye Killebrew (Charles); grandchildren, Jennifer Dickey (Richard), Heather Kidd (Billy), Julie Hovis-Diaz (Carlos), Carrie Coggins (John); four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
