Ferrell Cork

March 16, 1930 — September 13, 2010

Tupelo Rev. Ferrell O. Cork, Jr., 80, died Monday, September 13, 2010, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A McLaurin native, he was born April 16, 1930 to Ferrell O. and Margaret Anderson Cork, Sr., and was raised in Akron, Ohio. He graduated from Mississippi College in 1953 and New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1959. He was a retired Southern Baptist Minister, having served as pastor of Bogue Chitto Baptist, 1st Baptist of Gordo, Alabama, Brooks Memorial Baptist of Atmore, Alabama, 1st Baptist of Union, 1st Baptist of Aberdeen, and VanWinkle Baptist of Clinton. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving as a Ski Trooper. Also while serving in the Army, he was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champion. An avid outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tupelo.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, September 17, 2010 at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. David Eldridge officiating. Graveside services will follow in Lee Memorial Park with Rev. William L. Davis officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Billie T. Cork of Tupelo; one daughter, Lynn High (Henry)of Tupelo; one son, Steven E. Cork (Cheryl) of Mooreville; one brother, James Cork of Akron, Ohio; six grandchildren, Jennifer Medders (Cliff) of Cleveland, Leslie Wood (Andrew) of Saltillo, Catherine Stegall (Charlie) of Pontotoc, Jason Silcox (Paige) of Nashville, Tennessee, Colin Cork of Ripley, and Cade Cork of Mooreville; five great-grandchildren, Lex Davidson, Kaylee Wood, Cas Stegall, Nora Silcox and Davis Silcox.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Lullu Harrold; one grandchild, Meredith Davidson who died September 17, 2009.

Pallbearers will be Colin and Cade Cork, Jason Silcox, Cliff Medders, Lamar Pruitt, Andrew Wood and Dr. William Hilburn.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Gene Tinnon, Harold Long, Henry High, Leslie Sullivan and Billy Temple.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, September 16, 2010 at the funeral home.
