Fannie Lee Walton Lackey

Tupelo - Fannie Lee Lackey, 97, went to be with the Lord, Tuesday, September 15, 2015, at Tupelo Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was born in Itawamba County on July 18, 1918, to Eugene and Zelma Lee Hankins Walton. Fannie and her husband Dalton owned and operated Lackey's Grocery in East Tupelo which was established in 1955. Before operating the grocery store, Fannie worked at Reed's Manufacturing. She loved reading her Bible every day, gardening, crocheting, and especially loved spending time with and tending to her grandchildren. Fannie was a kind and loving mother and grandmother. She was a long time member of East Heights Baptist Church. Survivors include one son, Joseph Lackey (Kathryn) of Saltillo; one daughter, Lettie McNeece (Michael) of Mooreville; three grandchildren, Kathryn Kelso Harlow (Trey) of Hendersonville, Tennessee, Dudley Kelso, III (Jessica) of Memphis, Tennessee and Joseph E. Lackey of Tupelo; two sisters, Martha Holihan (Dick) of Zion, Illinois and Gartha Creekmore of Flint, Michigan; three great-grandchildren, William "Beau" Harlow, IV, Everett Harlow both of Hendersonville, and Archer Kelso of Memphis; and three step-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Dalton Lackey, Sr.; one son, Dalton Lackey, Jr.; one sister, Margaret McCollum; and four brothers, Theron Walton, Glenn Walton, Dale Walton, and Otha Walton. We would like to thank the staff of Tupelo Nursing and Rehabilitation, caregivers Rhonda Lea and Robin Barnett, and the Sunshine Girls of East Heights Baptist. Pallbearers will be Dudley Kelso, III, Trey Harlow, Joseph Lackey, Joseph E. Lackey, and Michael McNeece. Visitation will be 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2015, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo with services following at 3 p.m. in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues. Dr. Tim Brown, senior pastor of East Heights Baptist, is officiating.
