TUPELO - Fannie Lou Alder, 76, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a lengthy illness. She was born June 26, 1931, in Tremont to Elmer Brown and Effie Elizabeth Brown. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Tupelo where she was a very active member of the Ruth Sunday School Class. She was a graduate of Tremont High School, Itawamba Jr. College, Blue Mountain College and did her post graduate work at Vanderbilt University. She taught high school English until she retired. She was an avid reader and loved working outside.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church of Tupelo with the Rev. Dave Jenson officiating assisted by Dr. Randy Von Kanel. Burial will be in the Memorial Gardens in Fulton. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her husband of nearly 48 years, James Alder of Tupelo; three sons, Mark Alder and Cecil of Hinsdale, Ill., Michael Alder and Cathy of Tupelo and Jeffery Alder and Sally of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; one sister, Shirley Furgeson of Coldwater; one brother, Jack Brown of Mantachie; and three grandchildren, Bradley Alder, Rachel Alder and Matthew Alder.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Wendell Brown; and two sisters, Earline Smith and Nellie Holliday.

Pallbearers will be Wayne Thorn, Eric Thorn, David Blackwell, Ricky Cockrell, Joel Gary and Kenneth Burnside. Honorary pallbearers will be the Ruth Sunday School Class of First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
