Dr. F. L. Lummus Tupelo - Dr. Floyd Lamar Lummus, 77, of Tupelo, Mississippi, died Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. Dr. Lummus was born July 21, 1935 in Weir, Mississippi, and began loving and following Christ Jesus at the age of seven. He was a graduate of Ackerman High School, Mississippi College and the University of Mississippi Medical Center; he completed a medical internship at St. Thomas Hospital, Nashville, TN; he served in the United States Navy from 1961-1964, then completed his medical residency in Internal Medicine at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, Jackson, MS and at Ochsner Foundation Hospital, New Orleans, LA. He began his practice of Internal Medicine with Dr. Antone Tannehill in Tupelo, MS in 1967. In 1977, Dr. Lummus and fellow physicians Dr. Antone Tannehill, Dr. Bill Wood and Dr. Eugene Murphy, formed Internal Medicine Associates (IMA), which was eventually sold to North Mississippi Medical Clinics (NMMC) in the early 1990s. Dr. Lummus was selected NMMC Physician of the Year in 1981, and was a member of the NMMC medical staff from 1967 until 2006, a 39-year career of service to the medical community of Tupelo. He held a deep commitment to His Savior and served Harrisburg Baptist Church, Tupelo, as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon Chairman, and Finance and Building Committee member. He also served as Chairman of the Medical Staff at North Mississippi Medical Center, was President of the Northeast Mississippi Medical Society, a member of the Mississippi State Medical Association, American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, American Society of Internal Medicine, American College of Cardiology, as well as a Board of Trustees member at Blue Mountain College. A celebration of his life will be held 11 a.m. Friday, October 26, 2012 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Langerfeld and Rev. Scott Little officiating. A eulogy will be given by Dr. Bill Hilbun. Interment will be at Tupelo Memorial Park. A loving and faithful husband and father, he is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jeanette Moak Lummus of Tupelo; son, Dr. Allan Lummus (Connie) of Memphis, Tennessee; daughters Dr. Jill Lummus of West Hollywood, California and Neece Little (Scott) of Madison, Mississippi; and grandchildren Max Diamond Lummus, Luke Little and Jordan Little. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irene Husband Lummus and Floyd Alvaro Lummus. Pallbearers are Dr. Alan Flowers, Charlie Greer, Allan Kent, John Smith, Lee Thornton, and Bill Yarbrough. Honorary pallbearers are members of the Kilgo Sunday School class at Harrisburg Baptist Church. Visitation will be Thursday, October 25 from 4:00-7:00 pm at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home in Tupelo.
