EVELYN RAMEY Auburn Community - Evelyn Lee Lauderdale Ramey, 78, died Sunday, February 23, 2014, at the Sanctuary Hospice House. She was born in Prentiss County on January 22, 1936, to Donnie Lee and Edna Evelyn Stell Lauderdale . After graduating from Marietta High School, she married Terrell S. Ramey and joined him at Nellis Air Force Base in Las Vegas, Nevada, where their first son, Jeffery, was later born. After four years of service, they returned to the Tupelo area and welcomed their second son Terry. They made their home in the Auburn Community, where many memories were built. She and her husband were owners of Ramey's Grocery Store in Auburn for many years. Later she worked at Hunter Sadler, Rosato's and worked in retail. She was a longtime member of Auburn Baptist Church where she was active in the Joy Club. A Celebration of Life will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 25, 2014, at Auburn Baptist Church with Rev. Bob O'Neil and Dr. Gayle Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Auburn Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include two sons, Jeffery Ramey (Carolyn) of Beech Springs and Terry Ramey (Leona) of Tupelo; one sister, Moieze Lauderdale Nanney; three grandchildren, Christopher Ramey (Erin), Caleb Ramey (Alaina) and Olivia Ramey Mann (Jeffrey); two great-grandchildren, Hattie Rose Ramey and Lydia Caroline Ramey; one sister-in-law, Linda Stanford Lauderdale; one brother-in-law, Nelson Wilburn; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 54 years, Terrell Shane Ramey; three sisters, Virginia Lauderdale Stennett Bishop, Louise Lauderdale Wilburn and Nona Faye Lauderdale Johnsey; one brother Charles Edward Lauderdale. Pallbearers will be Jimmy Wilburn, Tommy Wilburn, Chris Ramey, Blake Jones, Austin Jones, Hunter Hall and Matthew Barkley. Honorary pallbearers will be Donald Stennett, Ronald Stennett, Gary Johnsey, Tracy Johnsey, Tony Barkley, Ben Hardin and members of Auburn Baptist Church Joy Club. Visitation will be 5 - 9 p.m. Monday, February 24, 2014, at W.E. Pegues in Tupelo. The body will lie in state 10:00 a.m. to service time at Auburn Baptist Church.
