Evelyn Gray

November 25, 1923 — January 26, 2015

Mooreville -Evelyn Gray, 92, died Monday, January 26, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. Evelyn was born November 25, 1923 to the late James Lee Taylor and Verdie Kelly Taylor. She was a lifelong native of Mooreville. In 1940 she graduated from Mooreville High School. Prior to World War II, she married James Etoile Gray on July 13, 1940. She then continued her education at Itawamba Junior College. Evelyn also was a sixth grade teacher at Mooreville Elementary School and was later Mooreville Junior High librarian for two years. At the age of 40, she obtained her real estate license and received numerous awards over the years for her outstanding sales results. Evelyn practiced real estate into her 80's and made many friends in the industry. Also, Evelyn was a lifelong member of Boguefala Baptist Church where she taught her Sunday School Class until 2002 after a decline in health. Her church family was very dear to her. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at Jefferson Street Chapel with Rev. Royce Hawkins officiating. A eulogy will be given by Judy Blaylock Massey. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include her daughter, Sylvia Jane Gray (Benita Carswell) of Atlanta, Georgia; four grandchildren, Woody Gray, Carrie Gray Robinson, Betsy O'Neal (James), and Anna Nelson (Reed) along with many other great-grandchildren; her brother and sister-in-law, Eva (Jack) Chilcoat; two nieces, Kathy Digby (Danny) and Gail Adams (Johnny). She was preceded in death by her husband, James Etoile Gray in 1987; twin sons, Troy and Travis Gray; a grandson, Jimmy Gray; a brother, James "Bud" Taylor and his wife, Ruby Faye Taylor, and many friends who she loved and cherished. Evelyn also wanted to give a special thanks to her church family and friends who took good care of her over the years. Visitation will be 12:30 p.m. until service time, Wednesday, January 28, 2015 at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may be left at www.peguesfuneralhome.com
