Skyline Evelyn Bates Franks, 82, died Monday, April 5, 2010, at The Green Houses At Traceway after a sudden illness. A Mooreville native, she was born September 15, 1927, to William Austin and Minnie Belle Berryhill Bates. She was a longtime resident of Skyline Community. A wonderful cook, she also enjoyed flower gardening and being outside. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of Open Door Baptist Church, where she attended until her health failed.
Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Leon Willis officiating. Burial will be in Payne Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Prentis V. Franks of Tupelo; three daughters, Sandra Knight (Mike) of Tupelo, Sue Wright (Bill) of Mooreville, and Penny O'Quinn of Tupelo; special friend and caregiver, Phil Ewing of Tupelo; one sister, Tarley Graham of Tupelo; two brothers, Erskin Bates of Tupelo and Lamar Bates of Clarksdale; seven grandchildren, Rusty Knight (Salma) of Cordova, Tenn., Brandy Hogan (Chris) of Tupelo, Alex Knight (Summer) of Nettleton, Jason Wright of Mooreville, Candi Quartaro (Brent) of Tupelo, Kristen O'Quinn of Tupelo, Ashleigh O'Quinn of Oxford; four great-grandchildren, Zoe Wright, Chandler Quartaro, Will Quartaro, and Connor Hogan.
She was preceded in death by her parents; seven sisters, Myrtle Hamrick, Addis Bryant, Flossie Booth, Juanita Harris, Tam Mills, Tee Simmons, and an infant sister, Lucy Bates; and one brother, Carlton Bates.
Pallbearers will be Larry Booth, Danny Booth, Foster Booth, Jr., Donnie Nichols, Chris Hogan, Jack "Brent" Quartaro, Bill Bates, Greg Bates, and Steve Bates.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home and will continue 1 p.m. until service time Thursday
Memorials may be made to a favorite charity of the donor's choice.
