Tupelo--Eva Lou Turner Mencl, 76, passed away Thursday, July 27, 2023 at her home in the Ballardsville Community. Eva was born June 17, 1947 in Tupelo, the daughter of Clyde and Verna Brown Turner. For many years she worked in several different furniture factories before realizing her dream of attending cosmetology school. Eva then became a hair stylist for J.C. Penny Salon where she worked until her retirement. Eva was a talented seamstress and artist. She also enjoyed gardening. However, her greatest joy came from the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Eva leaves behind her husband of 22 years, Robert Mencl; four children, Joy Lynn Funerburk, Paula Elizabeth Houser, Greg Hitchcock (Kristina), and Shawn Hitchcock (Farrar); two stepchildren, Missy Mencl (Ben Gibbons), and Tommy Mencl; grandchildren, Payton Hitchcock, Hunter Hitchcock, Baylee Hitchcock, Trinity Hitchcock, Dominick “Nick” Hitchcock, Riley Hitchcock, Renee Hitchcock, Darren Hitchcock, and Robin Tatum; great-grandchildren, Hayden, Kylee, Kloee, and Karlee; and a sister, Wand Brooks (Bill).
She was preceded in death by her parents; a grandchild, Sidney Elise Hitchcock; and brothers, Billy, James, Jackie, and Bobby Turner.
Eva’s family will celebrate her memory with a memorial service at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. James Vandevander officiating.
