Tupelo- Etta Mae Washington, age 71, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2022, at her home in Tupelo. Etta was born December 31, 1950, to Jasper Earle Reeves and Ruby Lee Hamby Reeves, in Grenada. Etta worked in banking for over twenty years, and for nineteen years, until her retirement, she worked as an administrative assistant for the American Family Association. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Tupelo. Spending time with family was what Etta cherished most, especially that which was spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 43 years, Alan Washington of Tupelo; two children, Karen Skou and her husband, Kristian, of Tupelo, and Phil Washington and his wife, Serena, of Tupelo; three grandchildren, Caroline Skou, Olivia Skou, and Liam Skou; two sisters, Juanita Gray and her husband, Graham, of Brandon and Norma Jean Strong and her husband, Robert, of Ocean Springs; and one brother, Leslie Reeves and his wife, Jean, of Grenada.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents.
Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service time Thursday at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring her life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 30, 2022 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues, with Rev. Ricky Young officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Houlka.
Honorary pallbearers will be Liam Skou, Michael Box, Robert Box, Peyton Box, Paul VanVeghel, and Tommy Spencer.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Etta’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association Mississippi Chapter, P. O. Box 456, Ridgeland, MS 39158 and the First Baptist Church Harvest Fund, 300 Church St., Tupelo, MS 38804.
