Ethel Tiner
Tupelo, Miss.Ethel Berry "Yiayah Tiner, age 105, died Friday, September 16, 2005, at the Greenhouses at Traceway Manor in Tupelo after an extended illness. A Pine Bluff, Ark. native, she was born October 20, 1899, to the late George W. and Martha Ann Elizabeth Clegg Berry. She was a retired schoolteacher in Pine Bluff. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Tupelo. She and her husband were charter members of the Wesley United Methodist Church in Pine Bluff, where she was a longtime Sunday school teacher. She loved her daughter, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, traveling, playing bridge, and her church.
Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday in Pine Bluff at Memorial Park with a memorial service immediately following at Wesley United Methodist Church. Rev. Clint Burleson of Little Rock will officiate. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors of Tupelo is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include one daughter, Annette Thornton and her husband, Ray, of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Robin Purnell and husband, Dan, of Tupelo, David Reynolds of Gould, Ark., Page Smith and husband, Kip, of Tupelo, Mary Shea Rogers and husband, John David, of Tupelo; eight grandchildren, Lauren, Lindsay, and Daniel Purnell, Christian, Hannah, and Ben Smith, Alex and Catherine Rogers, all of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Homer Tiner.
Visitation will be from 12:30 until 2 p.m. Sunday in Tupelo at Pegues on Jefferson Street.
