ESTELLE MOONEY FRANKS Tupelo - Estelle Mooney Franks, wife of Dr. Cecil Franks, went home peacefully to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 30, 2015, just short of her ninety-third birthday. She was born in Oxford to Martin Luther Mooney and Ada Cobb Mooney. Estelle married Cecil Sheffield Franks September 22, 1943. After their time at Ole Miss, the couple was off to med school during the war years, and lived in Memphis and St. Louis while Cecil continued in med school. The couple was stationed in California during and after the close of WWII while Cecil was overseas serving in the U. S. Navy. Estelle served as a civilian employee at the Naval bases in San Diego and San Francisco while Cecil was overseas. In 1952, they made their home in Tupelo where they ministered to the community and raised their family. They were displaced from Tupelo because of the April 2014 tornado. Since that time they have been near their daughter in Collierville, TN. Estelle is survived by her husband, Dr. Cecil Franks, longtime resident of Tupelo, one son, David Franks and wife Janice, one daughter, Dr. Carol Akin and husband Dr. Mark Akin, and one sister, Dorothy "Dot" Mooney Rowland and husband Thomas Rowland. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Daniel F. Werhan, Andrew F. Werhan, Tucker Akin, Sarah A. Raskett (Garrett), and Marjorie M. Monaghan (Chaz). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents Martin Luther Mooney and Ada Cobb Mooney of Oxford, and one son, Larry Mooney Franks of Tupelo. She was also predeceased by seven siblings and their spouses, Dr. Jim Mooney, Knox Mooney, Marie Shenalec, Ruby Meador, Blanche New, Lynna Mitchell and Christine Varner. A private family burial was held at Tupelo Memorial Park. The family requests you join them for a "celebration of life" memorial service at Calvary Baptist Church on Sunday afternoon August 9, 2015, at 3:30 p.m. in the sanctuary and for a time of fellowship afterward. The family would like to thank local care givers and special loving friends Janie Huddleston and Martha Rogers.
