Baldwyn - Essie Mae Hawks, 72, was received by the Lord's Hands on Saturday, May 11, 2019, at North Mississippi Medical Center. On June 1, 1946, she was born to Bondy Holland and Elsie Marie Baldwyn Elliott in Brewer Community. After many years of service at Lee's Sportswear, she retired to be a full time mother to her children. She enjoyed vegetable gardening, cooking for her family, fishing, but most of all, spending time with her family. Essie was a wonderful mother and friend who lived to care for her family and others. She especially loved being a Mam'maw to Malachi and McKenzie who were the joy of her life. Her door was never closed to anyone and her heart was always open for everyone.
Survivors include her two daughters, Crystal Gayle Hawks and her significant other, Amanda Moore of White House, Tennessee and Mellissa Michelle Hawks of Baldwyn, also known as "Pudding and Pumpkin"; five grandchildren, Malachi Hawks Mabry, McKenzie Saint Grace Freeman, Kyra McCall, Khristian McCall, Kayli Jo Moore; brother, Billy Wayne Elliott and his wife, Jane of Dumas; nieces and nephews, Tanya, April, Matt, Ethan, A.J., Bobby, Sissy, Tina, Judy, Joey, Robbie, Rehgan and Tyrell; and best friend, Linda Howard, and her children, Brandy, Pam and Bridgette, and her brother, Joe Rodgers.
She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Elizabeth Smith; father, Bondy Elliott; mother, Elsie Mayhall and Essie’s stepfather, Ray "Tootie" Mayhall; sister, Linda Faye Carroll; and brother, Bobby James Elliott.
Visitation will be from 3 until 7 p.m. Monday, May 13, 2019, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Jefferson Street Chapel with Pastor Scott Nolan and Sister Lenton Smith officiating. Graveside services will follow in Keyes Cemetery.
