ESPIE GREER Tupelo - Charles Espie Greer, 85, went to be with his Lord Monday, May 19, 2014, at The Sanctuary Hospice House. He was born in the Alpine Community in Union County, on June 18, 1928, to Paul M. and Gladys Plummer Greer. Espie was a veteran of the United States Air Force having served Stateside from 1952 to 1956, during the Korean War Conflict. Known all his life as a hard dedicated worker, his working career began at the Carnation Milk Company. For about 21 years, Espie worked for Pennsylvania Tire And Rubber Company, where he was among the first employees hired, and stayed there until the company closed. He then worked at FMC Technologies, Fulgham Lawn Service and ended his career with Nutra-Green Lawn Care. Espie enjoyed farming, working with his cows, growing a garden and especially enjoyed deer hunting. He was a longtime member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. Espie was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and he will be greatly missed by his family. Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014, at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Rev. David Langerfeld and Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. A Eulogy will be given by his grandson, Jeff Barnes. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of nearly 65 years, Ila Greer of Oak Hill Road Community in Tupelo; two daughters, Judy Barnes (James) of the Oak Hill Road Community in Tupelo and Belinda Jones (Terry) of Fulton; one brother, Hoyt Greer (Betty) of the Alpine Community; three grandchildren, Missy Donovan (Chris) of Tupelo, Jeff Barnes (Jessica) of Tupelo and Zack Jones (Jade) of Fulton; six great-grandchildren, Alex, Brodie, Cayden, Colton, Jacob and Caleb; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers will be Doug Whitenton, Joe Kilgo, Danny Maynard, Gerald Conway, Doonie Homan, Ronnie Shurden, Jimmy Mounce and Adrian Green. Honorary pallbearers will be the Deacons at Harrisburg Baptist Church and the Sanctuary Sunday School Class. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo and 10 a.m to service time Thursday at Harrisburg Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Sanctuary Hospice House, PO Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38803. Espie's family would like to thank his special caregivers, Lizzy Daniel, the North Mississippi Home Health, Dr. Brian Condit and the physical therapist staff on Floor One West at the North Mississippi Medical Center and the staff at the Sanctuary Hospice House.
