PETE SIMMONS Old Union Community - "Pete" Erskin Cecil Simmons, 81, passed away Monday, July 21, 2014, at his home. A Lee County native, he was born July 15, 1933, to Erskin Clinton and Berta Mae Smitherman Simmons. He was a 1952, Shannon High School graduate. He was a member of Old Union Baptist Church. Pete served with the Army during the Korean Conflict. He enjoyed fishing and bird hunting. Pete loved his nieces and nephews and spending time with his mother watching Days of Our Lives, which he continued after her passing. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Bob O'Neal and Rev. Robert Armstrong officiating. Burial will be in Old Union Cemetery. Survivors include two sisters, Maxine Sparks (Dalton) of the Old Union Community and Betty Parker (James) of Tupelo; five nieces, Andrea Floyd (Mark) of Old Union, Venetia Mallory (Jacob) of Old Union, Derinda Reid (Franky) of Old Union and Vickie Gober of Saltillo, Kathy Harris (Todd) of Newfame, NY; one nephew, George Gober of Tupelo; five great-nieces, Courtney Floyd, Melody Floyd, Lauren Mallory, Kaylan Reid and Kristen Reid all of Old Union; four great-nephews, Brandon Floyd, Christopher Mallory, William Reid all of Old Union, Simon Gober of Santa Clera, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erskin and Berta Mae Simmons; one brother, Bob Simmons; and one sister Aileen Gober; and one brother-in-law, John Gober. Pallbearers will be Jacob Mallory, George Gober, Mark Floyd, Franky Reid, Christopher Mallory and William Reid. Honorary pallbearers will be J. W. Hester, Buddy Grubbs, Fain Pannell and the Kelly's Coffee Club. Visitation will be 12 - 2 p.m., Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
