ERNIE COMER Sheman - Ernest "Ernie" Comer, 84, passed away, Sunday, May 18, 2014, at his residence. He was born September 3, 1929, to Audie and Gippie Brown Comer. He was a veteran of the United States Army Engineers, having served in Germany during the Korean War Conflict. For about 20 years, he worked as a packer in the warehouse for Fruit of the Loom. He enjoyed fishing, raising a garden and spending time with his family. He was a member of Sherman Baptist Church, where he worked in the nursery for several years. Services, with Military Honors, will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors, with Dr. Greg Thomas officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery. Survivors include his wife of almost 58 years, Sue Comer of Sherman; one daughter, Fran Buchanan of Sherman; one son, Stephen Comer of Colorado Springs, Colorado; two sisters, Nell Fitts of Pontotoc and Lorene Stanford of Baldwyn; two grandchildren, Sam Buchanan and Grace Buchanan of Sherman; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Dorris Francis and Dalphne Williams; and one son-in-law, Eddie Buchanan. Pallbearers will be Steve Christian, Leland Taylor, Brian Williams, Rick Spencer, J. W. Holder and Bobby Brooks. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo. Memorials may be made to Sherman Baptist Church, P.O. Box 406, Sherman, MS 38869.
