Ernest Gene Hughes

March 2, 1943 — January 17, 2018

Ernest Eugene Hughes, Sr., 74, went to be with his Lord and

Savior on January 17, 2018 at his home in Tupelo. He was born

on March 2, 1943 to Ernie and Vitress Hughes in Alameda,

California and was a graduate of Tishomingo High School.

For 35 years he sold industrial sewing thread for Belding

Hemingway and Coats American Thread Companies. An avid

sports fan, Mr. Hughes coached countless Little League Baseball

and Youth Basketball teams for many years.



Mr. Hughes was an active member of East Heights Baptist

Church in Tupelo where he was an ordained Deacon and Sunday

School Teacher. He and his wife volunteered with Builders for

Christ and Ridgecrest Conference Center in Ridgecrest, North

Carolina.



He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Linda; daughter Tanya

Wilson (Larry); sons Andy Hughes (Merrie) and Matt Hughes

(Amy); grandchildren Stephanie Raper (Robby), Justin Wilson

(Jennifer), Bryan Carter, Jake Hughes and Mattie Hughes; great

grandchildren Mackenzie, Daniel, Emma and Mason; a sister,

Pam Hughes, brother James Hughes and several nieces and

nephews.



He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ernest

Eugene Hughes, Jr., a brother, Clarence Hughes and a sister,

Shirley Hughes.



Services will be Saturday, January 20 at 11:00 am at Pegues

Funeral Home. Visitation will be at Pegues on Friday, January 19

from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.



Honorary pallbearers will be Larry Durham, Britt Durham,

Ray Anderson, Randy Anderson, John Bailey and his golfing

buddies.
