Tupelo - Erma Lee Pope, 101, died Tuesday, February 16, 2010, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Sherman native, she was born February 12, 1909 to Samuel Presley and Willie McCarty Caldwell. She was retired from Joyner Fields in Sherman, an active member of Sherman Baptist Church for over 88 years and was the oldest member of her church. She enjoyed gardening, quilting and spending time with her family and friends.
Services will be 3 p.m. Friday, February 19, 2010 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Ted Burcham and Rev. Steve Cohea officiating. Burial will be in Sherman Cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Julia Gilfert (David) of Saltillo and Marilyn King (Billy) of Tupelo; seven grandchildren, Melissa Greer (Kenneth), Sherry Young (Don), David Gilfert (Cindy); Tammy McMullan, Carey McMullan (Greta), Mark King (India), Chris King (Christy); eleven great-grandchildren, Corey Treadaway (Kristen), Taylor and Charlie Greer, Morgan, Adam, and Leah Young, Hannah Brasher (Justin), Carsen Koch, Grace McMullan, Hyder and Johnathon King; three great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Esca C. Pope; her parents; four sisters, Valera Caldwell, Lucille Caldwell, Pansy Caldwell, Lillian Crump, and one brother, Milton Caldwell.
Pallbearers will be Carey McMullan, Corey Treadaway, Don Young, and Kenneth Greer.
Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, February 18, 2010 at the funeral home.
