Emmette Charles "Charlie" Ward, Sr.

June 14, 1935 — February 10, 2018

Tupelo - Emmette Charles "Charlie" Ward, 82, passed away Saturday, February 10, 2018, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born in Mobile, Alabama June 14, 1935, to Harry Belden and Maybelle Josephine Overstreet Ward. He was raised in Mobile and lived there for most of his adult life. For four years, he served his country in the United States Air Force. He later spent 38 years as a commercial meter reader for Mobile Water Company where he never missed a day of work. On July 5, 1955, he married the former Dennie Moss and together they had  three sons. Charlie retired to Tupelo around 20 years ago.  He was an avid bowler who won many trophies, bowled several 300 games and had maintained a career average of 189. He enjoyed feeding his chickens and planting in his vegetable garden in his free time and absolutely loved everything about Alabama football. He was a simple man who enjoyed a simple life.



Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Dennie Ward; three sons, Emmette Charles "Chuck" Ward, Jr., Harry Neil Ward, Tony Randall Ward and wife, Petunia all of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Vicki Anthony and her husband, Andrel of Lansing, Michigan, Kristy Redford and her husband, Rusty of Pelham, Alabama, Mark Ward of Mobile, Jessica Stennett and her husband, Cooper of Guntown, Phillip Ramsey and Lance Ward both of Tupelo; seven great grandchildren, Madison and Grayson Redford, Andrel Jr., Wade and Tyree Anthony and Charli and Stella Blayke Stennett; two sisters, Norma Reilly of Cartersville, Georgia and Rosemary Lee and her husband, Jerry of Pelham; one niece, Wendy Reilly; and one nephew, Woody Reilly, Jr.



He was preceded in death by his parents.



A private family memorial service will be held with Dr. Keith Cochran officiating.
