ELTON E. YOUNG

Tupelo - Elton E. Young, 77, died Friday, November 24, 2006, at his residence in Tupelo after an extended illness. A native of the Unity Community east of Saltillo, he was born February 9, 1929, to the late Albert and Ruby Young. He was raised and had lived most of his life in Tupelo where he graduated from Tupelo High School and attended Mississippi State University. During the Korean Conflict, he was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi. He was a mason and a Shriner and a very active member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church until his health failed. He owned and operated memorial gardens, including Lee Memorial Park until his retirement.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Bert Harper officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Betty J. Young; three daughter, Danette Becker and her husband, Alan, Vickie Nettleton and her husband, Wilson, and Jenny Patterson and her husband, Billy, all of Tupelo; nine grandchildren, Jason Paterson, Jared Patterson and his wife, Elizabeth, Josh Patterson, Erin Lovett and her husband, Robert, Jeremy Becker, Jonathan Becker, Will Nettleton, Elizabeth Nettleton, and Michelle Nettleton; three sisters, Betty Dajani of Alexandria, Virginia, Nancy Gay of Jacksonville, Florida, and Judy Apple of Georgetown, Kentucky; and a host of nieces and nephews.

His six grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
