Elsie Vazquez

TUPELOElsie Jones Vazquez, 93, died Tuesday, March 12, 2010, at her residence in Tupelo after an extended illness. She was born in Northport, Ala. June 4, 1916, to Exie Cora and Berkley Montgomery Jones. She attended cosmetology school and then owned her own business, Elsies Beauty Shoppe, in Columbus for over 60 years. She made her home in Tupelo since 1987. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church. She loved her church and her Sunday School Class. She was a charter member of the Columbus Pilot Club for 50 years and later became active in the Tupelo Chapter. She was also a member of the Sorosis Club and the WMU. She was the sunshine of her familys lives and loved them more than anything. She enjoyed cooking and baking and especially loved having her family over every Sunday after church.
Services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Harrisburg Baptist Church with Rev. David Langerfeld and Rev. David Smith officiating. Graveside service will be 4:30 p.m. at Memorial Gardens in Columbus. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include her daughters, Jane Crowe, of New York, Harriet Miller (Mike) of Tupelo; her sister, Eldra Shehady; three grandchildren, Jason Miller (Shelley) of Tupelo, Jennifer Miller of Franklin, Tenn. and Emil Johansson of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; and two great-grandchildren, Davis Miller and Dylan Miller of Tupelo.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, William Harry Crowe and James Crispin Vazquez; five brothers, Lloyd Jones, Reber Jones, Kenney Jones, Jack Jones, and Nathan Jones; and two sisters, Lou Cole and Vera Jones Sykes.
Pallbearers will be Dr. Bert Duncan, Mike Ferris, Dr. Smokey Young, Walt Dunn, Ricky Jackson, Bill Hannah, Jason Miller, Paul Backstrom and Emil Johansson.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Alan Flowers, Dr. Hughes Milam and Lucy Judson, her special angel and caregiver.
