PALMETTO - Elsie Wood Lindley, 90, long time resident of Palmetto, died Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, at Church Street Personal Care Home in Ecru after a lengthy illness. She was born in Lee County on Aug. 31, 1920, to Samuel Russell Wood and Rebecca McDonald Wood. She was a retired employee of Verona Elementary School System, working in the cafeteria. She loved working in her garden and in her yard, but most of all, she loved her special time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was the widow of Joel D. Lindley, who died May 31, 1997.
Services will be at 3 p.m. today at Palmetto United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dennis Fink and the Rev. Ronnie Goodwin officiating. Burial will be in Palmetto Cemetery. W.E. Pegues is in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by one daughter, Sandra Guin and her husband, Tildon of Mantachie; one son, Jimmy Lindley and his wife, Phyllis of Palmetto; five grandchildren, Jimma Clayton and Shane of Pontotoc, Michelle Christopher of Palmetto, Andy Lindley of Palmetto, Steve Guin of Mantachie and Ben Guin and Monyca of Belmont; and nine great-grandchildren, Lauren Clayton, Tanner Clayton, Wesley Christopher, Seth Christopher, Will Lindley, Adrianna Guin, Savanna Guin, Rayleigh Guin and Benjamin Guin.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three brothers, Travis Wood, Tommy Wood and Leonard Wood; and one sister, Bessie Bailey.
Pallbearers will be Russell Wood, Gary Wood, Sammy Wood, George Williams, Earnest Davis and Jerry Loden.
Honorary pallbearers will be the remaining members of Palmetto United Methodist Church.
The body will lie in state one hour prior to service today at the church.
