SHERMAN - Elsie Sarah Smith Hamm, 81, died Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Graceland Nursing Home in New Albany after a short illness. She was born in Itawamba County, the daughter of James Chester Smith and Annie Mae Gaddy Smith. She had lived in Sherman for the last 60 years. She was a homemaker and a member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She loved quilting, growing her flowers and her gardening and was truly loved by her family.

Services will be at 2 p.m. today at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with the Rev. Harlon Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Priceville Cemetery.

Survivors include three daughters, Jean Davis and James Floyd "Bo" and Anita Rakestraw and Homer, all of Blue Springs, and Teresa Rakestraw and Bobby of Abbeville; seven grandchildren, Renee Dulaney of Saltillo, Keith Davis of Tupelo, Angie McClure of Dumas, William Rakestraw and Wes Rakestraw, both of Blue Springs, Patrick Rakestraw and Christopher Rakestraw, both of Los Angeles, Calif.; and nine great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Chester Smith and Annie Mae Gaddy Smith; one sister, Effie Mae Dulaney; one half-sister, Eppie Baker; one grandson, James Michael Davis; and one half-brother, Henry Moore.

Pallbearers will be Bobby Rakestraw, Homer Rakestraw, James Floyd Davis, Keith Davis, William Rakestraw and West Rakestraw.
