Eloine Monaghan Reed
Saltillo - Eloine Monaghan Reed, 92, passed away Saturday, August 12, 2017 in her home. She was born February 24, 1925 to Marvin and Lena Monaghan in Lee County.
Eloine graduated as valedictorian from Mooreville High School where she also played basketball. In 1943, she married John T. Reed. She lived as a homemaker who enjoyed sewing and playing piano and guitar. Eloine was known to have a great sense of humor even during her battle with dementia. The matriarch of five generations, she was a genuine caregiver who enjoyed spending time with her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Eloine was also one of the oldest members of First Christian Church in Tupelo.
Survivors include two daughters, Marilyn Greenhill (Colin) of Savannah, Tennessee, and Paula Bingham (Jimmy) of Tupelo; one son, Ronald Reed (Dale) of Saltillo; one sister, Shirley Chism (Bobby) of Tupelo; one brother, Wayne Monaghan of Tupelo; nine grandchildren, Connie Peck (Roger) of Stanton, Tennessee, Kim Lesikar of Saltillo, Kevin Greenhill (Andrea) of Hernando, Mississippi, Ben Bingham (Suzanne) of Guntown, Amanda McCarthy (Daniel) of Mobile, Alabama, Joey Bingham of Tupelo, Jonathan Reed (Kristie) of Acworth, Georgia, Chris Reed (Elizabeth) of Ocean Springs, Mississippi, and Lindsey Chandler (Grant) of Mooreville; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, John; three brothers, Vernon, Virgil and Randall Monaghan; three sisters, Marvalene Elliott, Reba Harmon and Madine Shumpert; and one grandson, Jamie Bingham.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, August 14 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues, Tupelo with her nephew, Daniel Monaghan, officiating. Burial will be at Lee Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Jonathan Reed, Kevin Greenhill, Chris Reed, Grant Chandler, Ben Bingham, Joey Bingham and Daniel McCarthy.
Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at August 14 at W. E. Pegues, Tupelo.
