Ellen Barnes

Tupelo—Hildreth Ellen Barnes, 94, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 12, 2023 at the Green Houses of Traceway Retirement Community in Tupelo. She was born July 9, 1929, to the late C. B. Strickland and Myrtle Williams Strickland in Itawamba County.

Ellen married the love of her life, Billy C. Barnes, in 1947. They shared 60 beautiful years together until the time of his passing in 2007. She was a woman of strong faith and held a steadfast belief in the teachings of the Church of Christ. In her earlier years, Ellen found great joy in the simple pleasures of traveling, shopping and spending quality time with her friends.

She is survived by her loving son, Mike Barnes of Tupelo; and her devoted caregiver, Lisa Turner of Baldwyn.

Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and two brothers.

Visitation will be 12 p.m. until service time Friday, September 15, 2023, at Pegues, Tupelo.

Services honoring Ellen’s life will be 2 p.m. Friday, September 15, 2023, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues, Tupelo, with Bro. Russ Crosswhite officiating. Burial will follow at Lee Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be James Bryan, Scotty Strickland, Willie Jennings, David Nanney, Tommy Gurley, and Roy Strickland.
