Tupelo - Elizabeth Wiygul Long, 85, died Thursday, April 29, 2010, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. She was born August 10, 1924, to Ephriam H. and May Shumpert Wiygul. She was a resident of East Tupelo. She earned her bachelors degree from Ole Miss and later her masters from Mississippi State in Adult Education. She was a life-long educator and taught adult education at Itawamba Community College until retirement. She was a member of the Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church for over 48 years and was instrumental in the development of the Prude Memorial Library. She also taught the adult ladies Sunday School Class. She had moved to Oak Tree Plantation in Amory six years ago to be closer to her family. She enjoyed cooking, reading, animals and working in her yard. She loved her family and most of all spending time with her grandchildren.
Services will be 4 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Bro. Brandon Bell and Bro. Terry Pierce officiating.
Survivors include one son, William Carl "Bill" Long of Tupelo; one daughter, Julia Elizabeth Long Puckett of Amory; three granddaughters, Ashlee Elizabeth Cash (Billy) of Mesa, Arizona, Emilee Caralee Puckett of Nashville and Laura Lee Puckett of Amory; one great granddaughter, Elizabeth "Ella" Grace Cash; one brother, Fred Wiygul of Tupelo.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 43 years, Carl V. Long, who preceded her in death in 1991.
Pallbearers will be Nick Humber, Teo Rodriquez, Jimmy Bedford, Danny Brown, Billy Cash, Dale Harrell and Tom Daniels.
Visitation will be 2 - 4 p.m. Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to Prude Memorial Library at the Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church or The Gideons.
