ELBERT ALLEN EDGE, JR.
Tupelo - Elbert Allen Edge Jr., 78, died Sunday, Aug. 20, 2006, at the Traceway Manor Green House Retirement Center after a lengthy illness. He was born Feb. 24, 1928, in Saltillo to Elbert Allen Edge Sr. and Doshie Hodges Edge. He was the former production manager at the Daily Journal for 28 years. He was an avid car enthusiast, a member of the Tupelo Luncheon Civitian Club and the Tuesday Morning Coffee Club at Shockley's Restaurant and a 32 degree Mason. He had lived in Tupelo since 1955 and was the owner of Tupelo Engraving and Rubber Stamp Co. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church of Tupelo.
Services will be at 4 p.m. Tuesday at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Bryant Barnes officiating. Entombment will be at Lee Memorial Park with Masonic graveside rites.
Survivors include his wife, Mable Griffin Edge of Houston, whom he married in 1989; three daughters, Becke' Melton of Jackson, Margaret Simpson of Corinth and Yvonne Kendrick and Steve of Atlanta, Ga.; three stepchildren, Steve Griffin and Kay of Mantee, Melissa Ellard of Tupelo and Grant Griffin and June of Houston; eight grandchildren, Stacy Huff and Shane and Joe Melton, all of Jackson, Andy Melton and Julie of Richmond, Angela Dickerson of Corinth, Kate Simpson of Nashville, Tenn., Ginger Simpson of Starkville, Ashley Kendrick of Auburn, Ala., and Julie Kendrick of Memphis; three step-grandchildren, Scott Griffin , Landon Griffin and Shannon, and Sean Griffin, all of Mantee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his first wife, Dorothy Jean Hill Edge, to whom he was married for 42 years.
Pallbearers will be Steve Kendrick, Arie Vance, Drew Dickerson, Andy Melton, Joey Melton, Steve Griffin and Grant Griffin.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
Memorial may be made to the Hospice Ministries.
