ELBERT MARION BELK
HERNANDOElbert Marion Belk, 75, died Friday, January 06, 2006, at his home after an extended illness. He was born January 16, 1930 to the late Rev. Elbert Stephen and Lucinda Johnson Belk in Hamilton, AL. After serving in Japan in the US Navy, Mr. Belk completed his B.S. at Delta State University which prepared him for a 30 year career with the State of Mississippi as a supervisor of the Department of Social Services. Upon retirement, Mr. Belk remained an active member of the business community as owner and manager of several commercial and residential properties in the Tupelo area. He was a member of the South Green Street Missionary Baptist Church in Tupelo, and was a Mason, Scottish Rite.
Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Marshall Boyd officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Dr. Jo Ann Belk of Hernando; one daughter, Vicki Dill of Olive Branch; one son, E. Marion Belk, III, MD and wife, Dianne of Hernando; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Robbie Gann of Tupelo and Mary Lou Davis-Miller and husband, Bill, of Amory.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Leroy Belk and Kelly Gene Belk.
Visitation will be 4 until 6 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
