Carr Vista - Edwin Lee "Red" Shumpert, 78, died Thursday, March 9, 2006. He was born in 1927 in Itawamba County. He moved to Tupelo in 1963 and to Columbus in 1971. He returned to Tupelo in 1976 and has lived in Carr Vista at Verona. He was a scheduler for Rockwell International/Delta Manufacturing for 35 years. He was a graduate of Itawamba Community College and a veteran of World War II. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a Hamasa Shriner and a member of the First Baptist Church of Verona.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Dr. David Hamilton, the Rev. Carl Sanders and the Rev. Jerry Henderson officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.

Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Mary Watson Shumpert; one daughter, Lisa Twitty and husband, Richard, of Ramer, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Mallory and Madison of Ramer; one special niece, Mary Kay Watson of the home; one nephew, Danny Watson; three sisters, Flora Nell Williams of Marietta, Ga., Opal Price of Tupelo and Mamie Grace Riley of Mantachie; three nieces and five nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Gracia Shumpert; a brother, Haughton Shumpert; and a sister, Virginia Dozier.

Pallbearers will be Randy Riley, Britt Corbett, Creig Corbett, James Sullivan, Buddy Rushing and Phillip White.

Honorary pallbearers will be Stanley Ryan, Shorty Oliver, Hank Wiygul, Dent Shumpert, the Richmond Masonic Lodge and the Hamasa Shrine.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Verona First Baptist Church or a favorite charity.
