EDWARD G. BUSH

Oxford - EDWARD G. BUSH, 87, died Wednesday, November 28, 2007, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Oxford after an extended illness. He was born December 10, 1919, in Jackson County, W.V to the late Robert and Edna Hopkins Bush. He married Dorothy Hankins Bush June 8, 1946. A. U.S. veteran, he joined the Army in September 1941 just before Pearl Harbor. He served in the Army Air Corps in North Africa and England during World War II and also served in Occupied Japan after the war. He later participated in the Berlin Airlift. He served over 20 years in the U.S. Air Force, retiring as Master Sergeant in 1962. He then lived in Memphis, Tenn where he worked for the U.S. Post Office as a letter carrier, retiring in 1979 after 16 years of service. He and his family later moved to Pontotoc where they lived close to 20 years before moving to Tupelo four years ago. He enjoyed vegetable gardening and working in his wood shop. He was a longtime member of East Heights Assembly of God.

Services will be 2 p.m. Friday at East Heights Assembly of God with Rev. Franklin Davis and Rev. David Lann officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in Auburn Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Dorothy (Dot) Hankins Bush of Oxford; two sons, Joel G. Bush and wife, Jill, of Clarksville, Tenn., and Richard D. Bush and wife, Jane, of Bartlett, Tenn; one sister, Phyllis Bush of Ripley, WV; four grandchildren, Joel G. Bush, Jr. and wife, Dana, of Jackson, Tenn., Heath Bush of Nashville, Tenn., and Emily Bush of Albany, Ga.; Sabrina M. Rushton and husband, David, of Lakeland, Tenn.; two great-grandchildren, Brianna M. and Cade M. Rushton, both of Lakeland, Tenn.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Geneva Bush; and six brothers, Lee, Jonah, Carroll, Kenna Red, Ralph and Raymond Bush.

Pallbearers will be Mike Bass, Jerry Bass, Robert Bass, Bennie Hankins, Kenny Hankins, W.A. Hankins, Heath Bush and Joel G. Bush, Jr..

Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
