EDITH GRIFFIN Tupelo - Edith "Momma E." Griffin, 78, died Friday, August 24, 2012, at the Meadows in Fulton. She was born May 31, 1934, in Itawamba County to Bessie Bell Walton and Jessie Walton. She was the widow of V. E. "Junior" Griffin, Jr. who preceded her in death on December 21, 1976. She went to Dorsey School and enjoyed playing basketball through-out her school years. She continued to enjoy watching professional basketball on television especially during the Michael Jordan years with the Bulls. She loved working in her flowers and keeping a warm, loving home for her family. She was a dedicated walker who walked up to 3 miles a day until her health started failing. She kept young children in her home showing love to each and every one of them, many of which were her own grandchildren. She was a woman of encouraging words and a smiling face. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church for almost 60 years. Her faith in Jesus Christ was important to her, in which she often shared her steadfast love for the Lord. Services will be11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 28, 2012, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Forest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Priceville cemetery. She is survived by her four children, Pat Cross (Don) of Belden, Rickey E. Griffin (Amy Carnathan) of Tupelo, Garry Joe Griffin, Sr. (Ann Pate) of New Albany, Debrah L. Pender (Roger) of Tupelo; eleven grandchildren, Kim Griffin Romero (Juan) of Horn Lake, Christina Spencer of Idaho Springs, Colorado, Garry Joe Griffin, Jr. (Megan) of New Albany, Leah Smith Wilson (Daniel) of Brandon, Christopher L. Griffin (Kayla) of New Albany, Brett A. Smith of Corpus Christi, Texas, Laura Griffin Criddle (Jon ) of Saltillo, Steven Tyler Pender (Lezlie) of Mooreville, Kayla N. Pender of Tupelo, Natalie Griffin Grandin (Daryl) of New Albany, Andrew Griffin of Tupelo; ten great-grandchildren, Jake Romero, Alana Pender, Tanner Griffin, Kate Wilson, Maci Griffin, Haley Criddle, Cohen D. Pender, Kylee Griffin, Aubree Griffin and Braylee Griffin; two sisters, Gladys Walton Franks of Ballardsville Community and Vera Walton Wallace (Billy) of Mooreville. She was preceded in death by her husband, V. E. "Junior" Griffin, Jr.; her parents, Jessie and Bessie Bell Walton; three brothers, Clyde Walton, Noon Walton and Grady Walton. Pallbearers will be her five grandsons, Garry Joe Griffin, Jr., Christopher L. Griffin, Brett A. Smith, Steven Tyler Pender and Andrew Griffin.
