EDDIE LOTHORP
Tupelo - Eddie Gilbert Lothorp, 60, died Saturday, Feb. 11, 2006, at the North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. A Tupelo native, he was born June 11, 1945, to the late Gilbert and Irene Cook Lothorp. He was educated in the Tupelo Public Schools and had graduated from Tupelo High School. He joined his father in their family business, Lothorp Signs of Tupelo. After his father's retirement, he opened his own business, Eddie's Signs, where he worked until his retirement in 2003. He had been involved in hurricane reconstruction projects. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church, was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason and a Shriner. He was also a member of both the Mississippi and National Electrical Sign Manufacturers Associations. Known for his love of the outdoors, he especially enjoyed golf, hunting and fishing.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Richmond Baptist Church with the Rev. Clay Anthony officiating. Jimmy Spencer will deliver a eulogy. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.
Survivors include two daughters, Kerrie Gillentine and her husband, David, of the Richmond community, and Kristi Lothorp of Pontotoc; one son, Mike Lothorp and Amy of Tupelo; the mother of his children, Dianne Lothorp; one sister, Pasty West of Tupelo; one brother, Jimmy Lothorp of Tupelo; six grandchildren, Bailey and Payton Gillentine, Anna Claire and Cole Lothorp and Austin and Colby Lewis; two nieces, Kim Weaver and Reagan Pound; one nephew, Kevin Lothorp; and a special friend, Craig Tatum.
Pallbearers will be Sam Reedy, Jimmy Floyd, Bob Knight, Kirk Kennedy, John T. Rasberry and Paul Cook. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy Fooshee, Milton Bradley, Doug Bradley, David Bradley and Buddy Vandiver.
Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.
