E. C. MAY
Tupelo - E. C. "Bulldog May, Jr., 88, died Monday, August 15, 2005 at the Carraway Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, after a brief illness. A West Point, Miss. native, he was born July 11, 1917, to the late E. C. May, Sr. and Della Howard May. He was raised in West Point and lived there ten years after his marriage in 1946 to Mary Wilson Dale. An Army Veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he retired in 1976 as a Major in the Army National Guard. During his long career with South Central Bell, he had lived in Columbus, Grenada, Oxford, and Tupelo before retiring in 1978. During his tenure, he was responsible for introducing automated dialing in Granada where he was district manager, and he served in the District office in Oxford and Tupelo. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Tupelo. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Mississippi Seniors Golf Association, and for a couple of years, the Southern Senior Golf Association.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday in Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. David Smith and Rev. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Tupelo Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Wilson Dale May of Tupelo; two sons, James Walker "Jim May and his wife, Bobbi, of Birmingham, and Mike May of Tupelo; one sister, Doris Harrell of West Point; and two grandchildren, Walker and Turner May both of Birmingham.
Pallbearers will be, Walker May, Turner May, Sterling Harrell, Hal Green, Charlie Dale, and John Dale.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Charlie Hayes, Pete Harvey, Neil Roberts, and W. A. "Red Byrd.
Visitation will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home in Tupelo.
