Douglas P. Bass

Oxford - Douglas Phillip Bass, 88, died Friday, September 18, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford. A Lee County native, he was born March 1, 1921 to Phillip and Olga Hussey Bass. He joined the United States Army on October 12, 1942 and was honorably discharged after becoming disabled as a result of serving in World War II. He was a member of the Richmond Baptist Church. He had lived the past seven years at the V. A. Nursing Home in Oxford. In his earlier years he had enjoyed gardening and loved dancing.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Andrews Chapel Cemetery with Sammy Lansdell officiating. Burial will be in Andrews Chapel Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include his daughter, Gayle Hillhouse (Joe) of Plantersville; one son, Mike Bass (Wanda) of Tupelo; one sister, Winnie Estes of Plantersville; one brother, Lowery Bass (Patsy) of Tupelo; two grandaughters, Melanie Henderson (David) and Emily Foster; two grandsons, Chris Bass (Kristy) and Tim Bass (Melissa); five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Joe Glen Bass, Thomas Bass and Rich Bass; one sister, Thelma Young.

Visitation will be 4 - 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at the funeral home.
