DORRIS NORRIS Saltillo - Mrs. Norris, 78, died Monday, January 7, 2013 at the Sanctuary Hospice House in Tupelo. She was born March 31, 1934 to Namon and Minnie Montgomery Bryant. Mrs. Norris was a member of Saltillo United Methodist Church, where, for many years she provided beautiful arrangements for the Sunday services. Mrs. Norris was a crossing guard for a number of years in Tupelo - first at the Battle of Tupelo Civil War Monument on West Main and later at Pierce Street Elementary School. She was a talented seamstress. While her children were growing up, she sewed for the public from her home. She managed McCrae's alterations department for a number of years after her children were grown. Upon retirement she loved working with the flowers and plants in her yard and in the greenhouse her husband built for her. In 1996 she was diagnosed with Inclusion Body Myositis, a rare degenerative muscle disease. She worked tirelessly to educate herself and then others, including her doctors, about this disease. Services honoring the life of Dorris Bryant Norris will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 11, 2013 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Brother Tim Green officiating. Burial will be at Lee Memorial Park in Verona. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements. She is survived by her husband of sixty-one years, Robert "Bobby" Norris of Saltillo; four children, Linda Pearson (Thomas) of the Unity Community, Robert Norris (Tiffany) of Saltillo, Vicki Burch (Ron) of Saltillo and Alan Norris (Lee) of Tupelo; her grandchildren, Clay Pearson (Tracy) of the Unity Community, Chad Pearson (Emily) of Iuka, Nick Norris (Meghan) of Madison, David Norris of Saltillo, Alex Norris of Saltillo, Jonathan Norris of Saltillo, Carrie Burch of Saltillo and Victoria Norris of Tupelo. her three great-grandchildren, Teah, Brandon and Austin Pearson all of the Unity Community; one sister, Fay Kidd (James) of Tupelo. She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Moses and Pauline Norris; one sister, Sylvia Bryant; two brother-in-laws, James Gilbert and Wayne Norris; two nephews, Mark Stephen and Thomas Wayne Kidd. Visitation will be from 5 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 10, 2013 at the funeral home.
