Dorothy Pegram Wilson

October 13, 1913 — August 22, 2015

DOROTHY PEGRAM WILSON Tupelo - Dorothy Pegram Wilson, 101 years, died August 22, 2015 after a week at North Mississippi Medical Center. She was born October 13, 1913 to Dr. Robert Hugh Pegram, Sr. and Pearl West Pegram in Potts Camp, MS. In 1925, the family moved to Tupelo, where she grew up. She received a BS in Elementary Education from Mississippi State College for Women in 1936 and taught school in Tupelo before and after the war. During World War II, she was an inspector at the Army's ordnance plant near West Point, MS. She was married to Woodrow Wilson of Hamilton, MS from 1944 until his death in 1957 at age 40. After initially residing in Aberdeen and Tupelo, the couple moved to Pensacola FL, where they enjoyed social events with many other young couples in the post-war years and were active members of the First Methodist Church. She taught school in Pensacola for more than 25 years, primarily 5th grade but later in her career 2nd grade and as a reading specialist. In 1957, she became a member of the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority. She also served as interim principal of P.K. Young Elementary School for a short period. In late 1973, she married Harold G. Wilson and the couple moved to his home in Aberdeen, MS in 1974 after she retired from teaching. They were members of First Baptist Church in Aberdeen and, after moving in 1986, Calvary Baptist Church in Tupelo. They enjoyed traveling and visits with relatives, particularly grandson Justin. After Harold's death in 1998, Mrs. Wilson returned to First Methodist Church in Tupelo, which she had attended from the mid-1920s into the 1940s. Colleagues, friends, relatives, and former students remember her for her sharp mind, caring inquiries, and conversational skills. She was skilled at bridge, which she continued to play into her 90s. She enjoyed reading, and in her later years email and reading articles online, which she continued until her recent hospitalization. She was an amazing lady with full control of her faculties until the end, always in charge of her destiny, cheerfully dealt with adversity, and lead an amazing and happy life. Services will be held on Tuesday, August 25 at 11 a.m. at W.E. Pegues Funeral Home, 535 W. Jefferson St. in Tupelo with Rev. Terri Armstrong officiating. A reception will follow the service. Interment will be at Odd Fellows Rest Cemetery in Aberdeen, MS. Survivors include one son, Robert Woodrow Wilson and his wife Joan Przybyla Wilson of Weston MA, one grandson, Justin P. Wilson and his wife Valerie Fernando of Asheville NC, and a number of beloved and wonderful nieces, nephews, their children and spouses. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Woodrow Wilson, and her second husband, Harold G. Wilson; two brothers, Dr. Robert H. Pegram, Jr. and Dr. Max W. Pegram; two sisters, Jeanette P. Renshaw and Jo Ann Scribner; and her step-mother Delta D. Pegram. Pallbearers will be her grandson Justin Wilson and nephews Bob Renshaw of Memphis TN, Hugh Scribner and Ray Scribner of Tupelo, Mike Scribner of Savannah GA, and Martin Wilson, Larry Wilson, and Walter Hugh Wilson of Hamilton MS. In lieu of flowers, she asked that memorials be made to a favorite charity. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
