Dorothy McCollum

Palmetto - Dorothy (Dot) McCollum, 62, died Friday, February 13, 2009, at her residence in the Palmetto Community after an extended illness. A native and life-long resident of Lee County, she was born August 19, 1946 in Tupelo to Walter Vernon and Julia Christeen Hicks Robinson. She was the widow of Jimmy McCollum who preceded her in death on April 10, 1980. She retired from Cooper Tire after twenty years of service. She was a member of Boguefala Baptist Church. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2009 at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Rev. Roger D. Franks officiating. Burial will be in Palmetto Cemetery.

Survivors include five children, Wayne McCollum and wife, Lisa, of Golden, Cindy Johnson and husband, Dwight, of Fulton, Ray McCollum and wife, Nancy, of Fulton, Chris McCollum and wife, Tammy, of Mantachie and Nita Spencer of Fulton; three sisters, Frances Chism and husband, James, of Saltillo, Joann Robinson and Martha Shake, both of Palmetto; three brothers, Robert Robinson of Pontotoc, Walter Robinson of Auburn and Danny Robinson and wife, Redia, of Palmetto; a special friend, William Bullock of Baldwyn; a special friendship, Clyde and Dorothy Tharpe of Houlka; 14 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents; one granddaughter, Shane West; one son-in-law, Chris Spencer; two sisters-in-law, Janie Robinson and Janice Robinson.

Pallbearers will be David Richey, Chris Franks, Terry Harris, Jason West, Bobo McCollum and Leonard Beasley.
