Dorothy Louise Miller Maxcy, 89, died Monday, July 23, 2018, at Countrywood Manor Assisted Living. She was born April 4, 1929, to Evans and Georgia Vera Speck Miller. Early in life, she worked for National Car Rental. Later in life, she owned and operated Nearly New Consignment Shop in East Tupelo and retired from South Central Bell after working as a telephone operator for 31 years. Dot enjoyed telling stories of her basketball playing days at East Tupelo High school and how Elvis Presley loved eating her tea cakes when they were neighbors. She had a great love for animals, especially the stray cat at Coutrywood that she named Bitsy. She was a member of East Heights Baptist Church for many years until her declining health prevented her from attending.
Survivors include one granddaughter, Mindi Guin and her husband, Steve of Mantachie; one sister, Ruby Jane Rynning and her husband, Eddie of Hollywood, Florida; four great-grandchildren, Jacob Underwood of Mantachie, Joleigh Goodson of Mantachie, Savanna Guin of Saltillo and Adrianna Guin of Oxford; two nephews, Mark Rynning and his wife, Kathy of Orlando, Florida and Kenneth Rynning of Hollywood; a host of great-nieces and great-nephews; and many special friends and caretakers at Countrywood Manor.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Donald Evans Ellis; one daughter, Patricia Ann Ellis; and one brother, Bruce Miller.
Visitation will be from 5 until 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services will be 11 a.m., Thursday July 26, 2018 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. James Young officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Steve Guin, Tildon Guin, Boyd Yarbrough, Buddy Palmer, Ben Guin and Steve Bramlett.
