Dorothy Jean “Dot” Lyons

TUPELO – Dorothy Jean “Dot” Lyons went to her heavenly home on March 26, 2023, at the Martin House in Tupelo at the youthful age of 89. Dot was born on August 7, 1933, in Guntown. Dot graduated from Cedar Hill High School in 1952 where she was a forward on her high school basketball team. She began her professional career in 1959 at Midsouth Packers until their closing in 1985 when she joined Danvers and was best known as “Mrs. Danvers.” She was a sports enthusiast, especially basketball. She loved country music and one of her favorite annual events was the Nashville Fan Fair, which she attended religiously for over 20 years. She was even known by some of the celebrities that often attended.

Dot became a staple in her community. She enjoyed cooking for anyone with an appetite and never met a stranger. She was actively involved with the Tupelo Civitan Club event volunteer group. Dot was also an avid Elvis Presley fan, and her biggest passion was being a member of the Elvis Fan Club where she was able to connect with other Elvis enthusiasts across America.

Dot was a devout Christian, a member of Beech Springs Free Will Baptist Church, attended Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church and fancied her participation in her Ambassador Sunday school class. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, and dear friend who embodied God’s grace and exemplified every detail of love.

Dot was civic-minded, family-oriented, and driven by a passion for helping others. Her thoughtfulness and kindness were a perfect reflection of who she was every day. She was a gift to all who knew her, loved her, and will be remembered for the many lives she has touched, impacted, and influenced in her lifetime.

Dot is survived by her children, Lycrecia Harris (Herb Braun), Shelia Sheffield (Bill), Lisa Donahue (Rickey), and John Webb (Sissie); special stepchildren, Donnie Webb, Elmo Lyons, and Stacy Lyons; bonus children, Shauna Bryan and Juan Moody; grandchildren, Mandy Webb (Wayne), Lee King (Mary), Miranda Goddard (Nick), Josh Donahue (Kendyll), Laken Jones (Garrett), Weston Webb (Janelle), Liza Webb; sister-in-law, Debra Aron; and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willis Pettey and Olga McCostlin; husbands, Elmo Lyons and Fletcher Webb; and three grandsons, John-Mark Webb, Elmo Lyons III, and Will Lyons.
