Dorothy Corrine (Dottie) Strain Tupelo - Dorothy Corrine Strain passed away Thursday, March 26, 2015 after a lengthy illness. Born July 17, 1945 in Tupelo, she was the only child of the late James Albert (Abb) Strain and the late Blanche Lamar Reed Strain. Dottie graduated with honors from Tupelo High School and received a Bachelor of Arts in English from Queens College in Charlotte, North Carolina. She received a Masters of Education from Mississippi College and completed additional graduate study at the University of Mississippi. At Queens, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority and served as President. After college, Dottie taught English at Callaway High School in Jackson for 13 years and was Chairman of the English Department. Among other duties and honors, she was named Star Teacher in 1976 by the Mississippi Economic Council. In 1980, Dottie joined the Mississippi Institutions of Higher Learning in the Office of Financial Aid as Assistant Director and worked there until she retired in 2000 as Director of the Mississippi Office of Student Financial Aid. She was awarded Honorary Lifetime Membership in the Mississippi Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators by its Executive Board in 2001. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Tupelo. The family would like to give special thanks to Patsy Johnson, long time family friend and caregiver, and Lifeline Companion Sitters. Visitation will be at First Presbyterian Church, Tupelo, Saturday, March 28 from 1:00 until 2:00 pm. Funeral service will follow at 2:00 pm at the church with burial in Glenwood Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of arrangements. She is survived by her cousins, Lisa Scott Magee (Ken) of Ridgeland and John Scott Magee (Holly) of Ridgeland, Betty Ott McMillon of Memphis, Tenn, and Ida G. Lambert of Ridgeland, in addition to other cousins. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 400 W. Jefferson St., Tupelo, MS 38804 or the charity of your choice.
