Dorothy Allen

December 21, 1919 — May 17, 2009

Tupelo " Dorothy T. Allen, 89, died Sunday, May 17, 2009, at Sanctuary Hospice House after a long illness. She was the widow of Lee N. Allen, Sr. who died in 1992. She was born near Hamilton, Alabama, to the late Matthew and Lydia Taylor.

Mrs. Allen graduated from high school in Hamilton, Alabama, in 1937. She has been a resident of the Tupelo area for more than seventy years. She was a housewife, held various part-time jobs, and was an assistant for many years on the Lee County Library Bookmobile which served Lee and Itawamba Counties. She was an expert seamstress and enjoyed sewing and quilting. She was a member of Harrisburg Baptist Church for approximately sixty two years, active until her health began to fail. She had been a resident of Homeplace at Saltillo for six years.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. Burial will be in Union Cemetery northwest of Belden.

Survivors include her son, L. Nash Allen, Jr., and his wife, Rosaland, of the Natchez Trace Villas, two sisters, Cuple Gann and Eva Holloway; a brother, Erskine Taylor, all of Hamilton, Alabama and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, James Taylor and Doyes Taylor, both of Hamilton.

Her nephews will serve as pallbearers

Visitation will be from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday, at the funeral home.
