Shannon - Donnie O'neal Greer, 62, took his heavenly flight on Monday, December 21, 2009, from his residence in the Brewer Community after an extended illness. A Lee County native and longtime resident, he was born December 1, 1947, to Charles O'neal and Ruby Nell Nicholson Greer. He was a 1966 graduate of Shannon High School. He worked 37 1/2 years for Kansas City Southern Railroad as train master. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and working in his shop. He loved his family and the special time spent with his grandsons. He was a faithful member of Brewer Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Minister of Music.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W. E. Pegues with Dr. Rex Yancey, Bro. Joe Dye, and Rev. Tommy Temple officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Survivors include his wife of 41 1/2 years, Connie Greer of the Brewer Community; two daughters, Carron Stanford of Pontotoc and Penney McCormick and Tim Griffin of Nesbit; his son, Jason Greer and his wife, Ashley, of Brewer; his parents, Charles and Ruby Greer of Brewer; four grandsons, LCPL Andrew Burleson, Will Stanford, Wesley Stanford, and Colton Greer; his sister, Risa West and husband, Claude, of Senatobia; his extended family including Claude and Vivian Brown, Butch and Donna Brown, Edwin and Joyce Brown, Debbie Kornegay, and Joyce and Glen Pate.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Henry and Annie Pearl Nicholson and Henry Clyde and Minnie Greer.
Pallbearers will be Robert Allen Godfrey, Joe Minga, Bobby Stanford, Randy McCormick, James Stanford, and John Chrestman
Honorary Pallbearers will be Kansas City Railroad employees, active and inactive; Men of the Adult III Sunday School Class; and the Brewer Grocery Breakfast Roundtable.
Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
