Southaven- Donald Eugene Smith, 59, died Tuesday July 18, 2023 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Desoto County. He was born on October 11, 1963 in Tupelo. He is the son of Weaver Holland Smith and Frances and Jack Burnham. He lived the majority of his life in Tupelo, but relocated to Southaven when he married Carol Smith and they were married for 15 years before her death on Easter in 2022.
He spent the majority of his professional with A&A Home Health and most recently at Linde Gas and Equipment. He was a former member of Eggville Free Will Baptist Church. He was a man of many interests, but two activities held a special place in his heart: wrestling and playing pool. Whether watching his favorite wrestling matches or engaging in intense pool games with his friends, Donald's enthusiasm and competitive spirit were always evident. He was also known for enjoying a fire smoking his favorite cigars.
Donald is survived by his daughter, Shana Morris of Pontotoc, his granddaughters, Makayla Morris and Isabelle Morris; father, Jack Burnham of Tupelo; brother, Howard Burnham (Sharon) of Red Bay, Alabama; sister-in-law, Cindy Smith of Tupelo; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dogs, Dixie and Diesel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Smith; mother, Frances Burnham; biological father, Holland Smith; one daughter born into heaven, Tabitha Smith; and brother, Jerry Dwayne Smith.
Visitation will be 11:30 a.m. until service time Thursday, July 20, 2023 at Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring his life will be 2 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of Pegues with Rev. Neal Ramage officiating. Graveside services will follow in Eggville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Brad Smith, Chad Smith, Perry Stanford, Shane Baker, Wayne Bishop, and Richard Johnson. Bobby Joe Tackitt, Howard Burnham, and Wesley Love will serve as honorary pallbearers.
