DONALD K. LANPHERE Saltillo - Donald Kenneth "Don" Lanphere, 88, of Fellowship Community, passed away Friday, September 19, 2014, at the North Mississippi Medical Center, Hospice Unit. Don's life struggles were finished and his spirit has joined with God. He was born August 26, 1926, the son of the late Robert Clayton and Winnie Baggett Lanphere. Don served as a Steward's Mate First Class in the United States Maritime Service in 1944, during World War II. He trained in Brooklyn and served on the Marianas and Solomon Islands. After his discharge in 1946, he returned home to Saltillo and married his love, Helen Langston in 1949. Don was employed at various jobs in Lee County. He retired in 1990. He was Primitive Baptist by faith and attended Fellowship Baptist Church. Don enjoyed the beauty of life, watching birds and yard work. He had a great passion for gardening. The community has lost a friend and neighbor and he will be sadly missed. His family has lost a kind and loving man which was loved dearly. He was always concerned about his family and fellowman. He always had a friendly smile and warm greeting to all he met as he traveled down the road of life. Services will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, September 22, 2014, at The Saltillo Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Henry Jenkins officiating. Burial will be in Fellowship Cemetery. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Helen Langston Lanphere; his sons, Kenneth Lanphere (Emogene), and Jonathan "Jon" Lanphere (Sherry); one brother, Prentice Allen Lanphere (Barbara); one sister, Juanita Dillard (Charles). He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant child, Benjamin Carliss Lanphere; one brother, Robert Clayton Lanphere Jr. His nephews will serve as pallbearers. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, September 21, 2014, at W. E. Pegues, Saltillo.
