Dona Sue Hodges Harrelson, 88, passed away peacefully with her daughters by her side Friday, January 11, 2019, at the hospice unit of North Mississippi Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born in the Ratliff Community in Itawamba County, June 8, 1930, to Earl Farris and Opal Lala Houston Hodges. She was a 1949 graduate of Tupelo High School. Sue worked as a bookkeeper at J.C. Penny from 1947 until 1954 and at Black's Department Store from 1962 until 1968. On February 11, 1950, she married Bobby Lee Harrelson and they enjoyed 53 years together. She enjoyed crocheting, camping and boating with her family. Sue devoted her life to the care of others including her family and her volunteer service at Lee Manor Nursing Home. She was a long-time and faithful member of West Jackson Street Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Cathy H. Monaghan (Bill) of Saltillo and Tawana H. Buse (Tommy) of Tupelo; four grandchildren, Addison Monaghan (Leah), Tyler Buse (Sommer), Trevor Buse (Anna) and Tara Beth Buse; two great-grandchildren, Karson and Jude; and two nephews, Tommy Harrelson (Pam) of Madison and David Rentschler (Karen) of Hohenwald, Tennessee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Bobby Lee Harrelson who passed away October 3, 2003.
Visitation will be from 4 until 7 p.m. Saturday, January 10, 2019 at W.E. Pegues, Tupelo.
Services honoring her life will be 2 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 2019 at the Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Bro. Chris O'Daniel officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park.
Pallbearers will be Addison Monaghan, Tyler Buse, Trevor Buse, Quitman Harris, Charles Maxwell and Jerry McKee.
