Dewdrop Clayton TUPELO - Dewdrop Clayton, 97, passed away Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013, at Gregory House, Traceway Manor. She lived in the Mt. Vernon Community for most of her life. She was a charter member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church, and she worked 42 years at Reed Mfr. before retiring. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. Her greatest joy in her retirement years was visiting with family and friends. She always put others' needs before hers. A celebration of her life will be 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at The Jefferson Street Chapel of W.E. Pegues with Rev. Doug Westmoreland officiating. She is survived by sons, Joe Clayton and wife, Carolyn and Jerry Clayton, and wife, Tula; grandsons, Brad Clayton (Jeni), Rob Clayton, Clay Clayton (Lisa) and Matt Clayton (Donna); great-grandsons, Jacob Washington (Rachel), Davis Clayton, Carter Clayton, Walker Clayton, Jack Clayton and Carson Clayton; great-granddaughters, Nikki Gillentine (Jamie), Katie Clayton, Grace Clayton and Anna Kees Clayton; and special devoted niece, Barbara Young. She was preceded in death by her husband, R.C. "Kirk" Clayton; parents, S.C. and Katie Raper; granddaughter, Amy Clayton; sisters, Veatrice Young, Gladys Roper, Lavelle Vinson Kelly, Avinell Clayborne and Alice Bailey; and brothers, Everett Raper and Elage Raper. Pallbearers will be Brad Clayton, Rob Clayton, Clay Clayton, Matt Clayton, Larry Raper and Howard Bailey. Visitation will be 4 to 6 p.m. today at the funeral home.
