Dessie Shattles

Tupelo - Dessie Mae Henderson Clark Shattles, 94, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009, at The North Mississippi Medical Center after an extended illness. A Saltillo native and lifelong resident of Tupelo, she was born November 8, 1914 to William Hollis and Lillie Parker Henderson. She was a retired private sitter and had also worked in the clothing industry. She loved her yard and her flowers. She was a member of Temple Baptist Church.

Graveside Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday at Tupelo Memorial Park with Dr. Forrest Sheffield officiating. W. E. Pegues Funeral Directors is in charge of the arrangements.

Survivors include her great-grandson and caregiver, Cameron Groves of Tupelo; her cousin and caregivers, Sarah and Gary Walker of Tupelo; several grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Jimmie Lee Gregory; her son, Alton "Jackie" Clark; her granddaughter, Vonita Hester; her brothers, B.C., Billy, O'Neal, Eron, Otis, and Leon Henderson; and her step-mother, Parthe Parker Henderson.

Pallbearers will be Camaron Groves, Gary Walker, Winford Wallace, and Richard Buckner.

Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
