DELMER L. BYRD Tupelo - Delmer Lee Byrd, 91, died Sunday, October 7, 2012, at Sanctuary Hospice House after an extended illness. He was born December 31, 1920 to William Robert and Cora Caster Carter Byrd in Detroit, Alabama. He worked for Malone Hyde for thirty-nine years and then for Kimberly Clark for ten years. He was also a veteran in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and usher for sixty-six years. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 9, 2012 at Tupelo Free Will Baptist Church with Bro. Terry Pierce officiating. Burial will be in Lee Memorial Park. W.E. Pegues Funeral Directors will be in charge of the arrangements. Survivors include his wife Irene Black Byrd of Tupelo; two sons, Jimmy Byrd (Wreda) of Tupelo and Jacky Byrd (Patsy) of Mantachie; one step-son, jerry Warren (Connie) of Woodstock, Georgia; one half-sister, Jewel Frederick of Hamiltom, Alabama; three grandchildren, Perry Byrd of Jonesboro, Arkansas, Roger Byrd (Ann) of Tupelo and Jacky Dale Byrd (Tonya) of Mantachie; three great-grandchildren, Justin, Austin and Colton Byrd of the home; a lot of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; ten brothers; six sisters; his last wife, Mrs. Lelah Mauldin Byrd. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 8, 2012 at W.E. Pegues in Tupelo. Memorials may be made to the Sanctuary Hospice House, P.O. Box 2177, Tupelo, MS 38803.
