Dean Pannell SALTILLO - Samuel Dean Pannell, 72, passed away Friday, February 13, 2015, at North Mississippi Medical Center. He was born June 2, 1942, to William Walter and Ara Virginia Crawford Pannell. Dean graduated from Jumpertown High School and Delta State University where he was a member of the Men's Basketball Team. Dean also graduated with a Master's Degree in Environmental Health from East Tennessee University. Dean worked for the State Board of Health for 7 years and retired from Novartis Pharmaceuticals after 30 years. Dean is a member of Saltillo First United Methodist Church where he served as a faithful Sunday school teacher, past President of the Saltillo Men's Club and volunteer for Meals on Wheels and Salvation Army. Dean celebrated his community, recently helping decorate Saltillo for Christmas with his good-friend Tom Smith. He coached several church-league basketball teams through his younger years. He also loved his R.A. boys he taught when a member of First Baptist Church Saltillo. Dean was known for his generosity to people in need. He dearly loved his children and grandchildren, and was a wonderful husband and Father. He loved Mississippi, through and through. He will be dearly missed. A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, February 15, 2015, at the Saltillo Chapel of W . E. Pegues Funeral Directors with Rev. Tim Green, Dr. Ken Anderson, Dr. Rex Yancy and Gary Kyle Waters officiating. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Fletcher Pannell of Saltillo; two Sons, Bradley D. Pannell (Jennifer Roberts) Pannell of Saltillo,MS, and Ash F. Pannell of Saltillo, MS; three grandchildren, Drew Pannell, Tatum Pannell and Hayden Pannell of Saltillo, MS; one brother, Charles W. Pannell(Jenny)of Ripley, MS; sister-in-law, Dorothy Pannell of Booneville, MS and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, William W. and Ara Crawford Pannell and one brother, Billy Wayne Pannell. Honorary pallbearers are his much loved Adeline Jones Sunday School Class; Friends: Tom Smith, Robert Gibson, Frankie Hopkins, Grady Flack, Ray Oliver, Ray Lubiani, Don Lorsado, Koos Badenhorst and the Saltillo Men's Club; his high school buddy, Kirby Smith, and his childhood friend, Eddie Swartz. Visitation will be 1 p.m. until service time Sunday, February 15, 2015 at W. E. Pegues, Saltillo. Memorials may be made to your charity of choice.
